Five parts, start to finish

Every picture book here follows a five-part arc: once upon a time, the world, the trouble, the turning point, and happily ever after. Meet the hero, show their ordinary life, upend it with a problem, let them face it bravely, and bring the story home. You supply the tale; the arc keeps it from wandering.

One picture per page

Picture books are looked at before they are read. So the template gives each page a single full-bleed illustration and keeps the words to a line or two. Short text, strong pictures, one per page. That restraint is what makes a picture book feel like a picture book rather than an illustrated essay.

A square hardback

The finished book is a square hardback, the classic picture-book shape, made for illustration and for small hands. The square trim lets each picture own its page.
